LARGO ARGENTINA

An archaeological site in the city centre with four ancient temples, unknown even to the experts.

When in 1929 the temples in Largo Argentina, in the centre of Rome, were uncovered, both the war and the requirements of Benito Mussolini fascist government impeded the experts from carrying out the necessary research on these important buildings. More than 80 years later the Capitoline Superintendence for the Cultural Treasures – Roma Capitale – re-initiated the studies on the four temples and on the Curia Pompeia (which is part of the site), the place where Julius Caesar was killed.
The archaeological site will finally be open to the public upon completion of this work.
